“Everyone wants to be Animal…”
It has been a busy few months at the Towngate, and with that has come some really special moments and surprises.
On this episode of Let’s Talk… Towngate – we speak with special guest, Ben Fisher, on his life in the music industry, and his brand new role as Session Producer at Towngate Theatre!
Raised predominantly is Essex, UK, Ben was born on the floor of Abbey RoadStudio’s famed Studio Two. Growing up in a musical environment, Ben initially tinkered on the drum-kit before moving over to guitar at the age of ten. Before long he was performing live with anyone who would have him. Over the years that have followed, Ben has become somewhat of a musical vagabond, plying his trade with anything that sparks his interest, gaining vast experience performing, recording and writing with many bands and artists along the way and, in doing so, has found himself involved amongst a myriad of different musical situations (including a short stint blowing the longhorn in the Swiss Alps for little more than chocolates and handshakes). The eclecticism is something he thrives on.
Currently Ben can be found in and around Europe with his own Roots/Americana original acoustic trio Jenny Wren and Her Borrowed Wings, as well as being guitarist and musical director of Soul/Funk/Blues sextet Big City Hoot n’ Howl.
Most recently he has also taken on the role of Session Producer for the community project Towngate Live! For which he books and oversees monthly live performances held in the Towngate Theatre, Basildon. Bringing original music back to the town he grew up in and a venue he frequented regularly himself as a young musician.
In this episode, we are also pleased to announce our next set of funding for Towngate LIVE! and our brand new addition to the programme, Towngate LIVE! Jazz Café’s! These events are monthly and kindly supported by Arts Council England. Our events host live and original music from local and national (sometimes international!) artists and run a Pay What You Can model to attend, so you have control over how much you pay. We are so excited to be bringing back our original music nights and doing justice to the musical heritage of Basildon, one gig at a time.
