Book and Visit with confidence
Important customer information
Please read this through carefully before you book or visit the theatre to help you relax and enjoy your visit with confidence.
The health and the safety of our audiences, the Towngate staff and our team of volunteer ushers is of paramount importance at all times. The information below outlines what measures and steps we are taking to ensure you the safest and most enjoyable visit possible, and what help we need from you to help us do that.
All measures will be continually reviewed and updated in accordance to the latest guidance and advice issued by the Government.
What to expect on your visit to Towngate Theatre
You should not attend a performance if:
- You experience Covid symptoms prior to a show
- You have been advised by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate
If you are unable to attend a performance due to either of these reasons, you should contact our Box Office Team on TowngateBoxOffice@basildon.gov.uk to discuss the options for your booking.
By entering the Towngate Theatre you are declaring that you:
- have not experienced symptoms of Covid in the last 14 days
- have not been in close proximity to anyone who has experienced symptoms in the last 14 days
- have not tested positive for COVID 19
- have not been instructed to self-isolate.
NHS COVID-19 app
Upon arrival to the theatre or Café , everyone must check in using the NHS COVID-19 app by scanning one of the displayed QR codes.
If you haven’t already, we recommend downloading the app prior to your visit to ensure your arrival to the venue is as smooth as possible.

If you do not have a smartphone, you must sign in manually upon your arrival with your name, seat number if attending a show and contact number at the Box Office.
All our staff will continue to wear face coverings.
Whether you are coming to see a performance, booking at the Box Office or visiting the Cafe Bar, we expect all visitors and customers over the age of 11 to exercise social responsibility and wear a face mask when entering and moving around the building.
Our staff will approach and encourage all visitors and customer to wear a face covering. If you are exempt, you may feel more comfortable showing something that says you do not have to wear a face covering. This could be in the form of an exemption card, badge or even a home-made sign.
Hand Sanitation and Enhanced Cleaning
Hand sanitation stations have been installed at numerous points around our building. We strongly encourage all visitors, customers and staff to regularly wash their hands and use the hand sanitiser stations.
All public corridors, toilets, bars and auditorium areas will be subject to enhanced cleaning regimes daily each morning and between performances including regular cleaning of touchpoints e.g. toilets, door handles, handrails prior to each performance and also during the day.
As part of our mitigating methods, we are utilising the maximum capacity of the air handling system within the auditorium to provide a fresh air supply circulating into the auditorium and other areas of the building, this means the building might feel a little cooler than you are used to so we advise you layer up for your visit.
Box Office and ticket collection
When booking tickets online, we strongly recommend that you select the E-Ticket option wherever possible. If you have chosen to select an E-Ticket, for your visit, please either print this ticket or ensure it is available on your smartphone device.
If you have received your tickets in the post already, please bring these with you as normal. Any future tickets will either be posted out or emailed for printing.
Should you need to collect tickets, please ensure you come to Box Office as early as possible before the show to collect your tickets. You will need to have collected your tickets before heading to your allocated entry point. Our Box Office is open from 10.30am.
Purchasing food, drinks and merchandise
Our bars and kiosk are open for you to purchase food, drinks, and ice cream to enjoy with the performance.
Please note: We do not accept cash payments.
Our toilets are open throughout the day and are fully ventilated. Our facilities are available throughout the performance should you wish to use them at quieter times and avoid queues.
To aid ventilation within our toilet facilities during performances, the main entrance door to the toilets will be held open (cubicle doors can be closed).
Leaving the building
When your performance has ended, we kindly ask that you collect your rubbish and dispose of it in one of our many bins provided.
When exiting the building, please be socially responsible and wear your face mask, make your way promptly away from the building to your mode of transport or next destination.
No visitors to Stage Door
Regrettably, we are unable to allow visitors in the BOH areas or allow anyone to wait at our Stage Door. There are no exceptions to this rule.
We are continuing to review our protocols under the Government’s latest guidelines with regards to Covid safety. The information below is subject to change as the guidance is updated over the following weeks and months.
Please rest assured that we will follow every step to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable visit to the Towngate.
We will keep you updated as soon as possible via this webpage and on our social media channels:
